My Philosophy & Approach

I love teaching children, teens and adults to enjoy learning to play the piano. My focus is to "make music" as soon as possible using simple and familiar folk, popular, and classical melodies. I commend and encourage while endeavouring to build a sensitive musical ear, a strong sense of rhythm, solid sight reading abilities, and good technique.

Over 30 Years of Teaching Experience

I started piano lessons when I was seven years old in Vernon, BC. When I was 14, I achieved my Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 8 Certificate. My teacher encouraged me to take on a few beginning students.

It seemed that I instinctively connected with them and my love for teaching grew from there. After completing the work for my Royal Conservatory Grade 10 I was convinced I wanted to direct my energies into teaching piano.

Since then I have had the privilege of learning from teachers in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan through workshops and pedagogy lessons. I've truly enjoyed seeing the delightful students I have worked with over the past 30 years grow to become accomplished musicians in their own right.

I have lived in Calgary for four years with my husband, Brennan, and our son, Benjamin. We have two adult children, Rachel and Jordan, as well as three beautiful grandchildren.

I currently teach at my home studio in North Central Calgary in a clean, quiet and cheerfully lit environment.
